The Printz Challenge

We understand that Mike Printz, for whom the Printz Award was named, was a dedicated high school librarian who, as friend Chris Crutcher described, gave readers "a place to stand in the circle of the joy and heartache that is storytelling"
(

The challenge for YALSA's Printz Committee is to select the books published each year that most deserve to be honored for their literary excellence in Young Adult literature.

Mike Printz would no doubt be pleased to learn that groups of young adults across the nation have worked hard to meet the challenge and select their own exemplary books.

On Thursday, February 6th, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Young Adult Literature Class at North Carolina State University produced a live Web event in which the, Eva Perry Public Library and Middle Creek High School met for the first time to discuss their choices for the Winner's Circle for 2002.  See the Web Event link below to see the archived session (coming soon) and photo gallery.
